# Navigating the sidebar

The left sidebar has everything you need: Channels, DMs, and notifications all live here

The channel you are in will be highlighted. A bold channel name or a red numbered badge means that there are unread messages inside. The red dot next to a direct message means that somebody has messaged you directly.
